ATM, I don't have a working Leopard install. The ISO seems to be damaged. I can burn it but it doesn't boot. Before trying anything I have to download another ISO - will take some time.

And installing from within Snow Leopard doesn't seem to work either ...

made change to plist to load verbose

Soooooo i got it booting, i regret nothing

    sudo chown -R root:wheel System/
    sudo chown -R root:wheel Library/
    sudo chown root:wheel /etc/sudoers
    sudo chown -R frontrow:staff /Users/frontrow

it is booting fine but am still unable to repair permissions which is causing all types for problems........

EDIT: not sure where i went wrong here......the permissions look stuffed on the ash's DMG.......am i the only one to experience this?
EDIT EDIT: Permissions are now fixing! Going to take over an hour and thats just the repair part.

    sudo chown -R _installer:wheel /Library/Receipts/bom
    sudo chown -R _installer:wheel /Library/Receipts/db

OSX has an option (cmd-I) to mount dmgs without permissions. You have to enable permissions then they are preserved when coping with -pRv.

A better way to copy the dmg to the Media parition is to use the Harddisk utility's restore function. The important part here is to unselect "erase targate medium".

i could be wrong but.......if you have a chance, have a look at the permissions on the image you provided and everything is set to

    user:staff

from what i can see both your and josmons images dont have the correct permissions.....please correct me if im wrong

EDIT: i think i relised where i was going wrong...............will update when im sure

    You're wrong ;-)

As I said before: the permission's are there. You just have to activate them in the cmd-I info dialog under "permissions".

i humbly apologise for my scandalous accusations

Where i went wrong (....but amazingly was able to fix)
I copied ash's image to the appletv and mounted it via hdiutils and copied the contents over preserving permissions but by mounting it this way the image doesnt mount with the correct permissions anyway :/

Im currently using asr to copy the OS and it looks promising........will update when im sure

EDIT: What follows is how i got JonMS image on to my AppleTV without having to remove the internal hard drive. I chose JonMS because it scored ~50 point higher in Geekbench then ash's with similar tweaks but Ash's also has features that JonMS doesnt, i have system profiler dumps from both if any wants them.

    Also

    Ash's - System Version: Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L30)
    Kernel Version: Darwin 9.5.0

    JonMS - System Version: Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L31a)
    Kernel Version: Darwin 9.8.0

    Transfer image to AppleTV
    From your Mac

    hit command-k
    type afp://appletv.local
    Username: frontrow
    Password: frontrow
    mount frontrow
copy image over eg AppleTV OSX.dmg
Close window and eject - not required

    Prepare image on AppleTV
    hit comand-shift-u
    double-click Terminal
    type ssh frontrow@appletv.local
You will likely be prompted to save an RSA key type yes
you will be ask for a password
    type frontrow
type sudo asr imagescan --filechecksum --source /Users/frontrow/ATV\ OSX.dmg - this takes awhile

    Install OS

type sudo asr restore --source /Users/frontrow/ATV\ OSX.dmg --target /mnt - this takes awhile too
type sudo bless --folder=/mnt/System/Library/CoreServices --file=/mnt/System/Library/CoreServices/boot.efi --setBoot --nextonly - remove -nextonly if you want to permanently boot in Leopard
    type sudo shutdown -r now

    In Leopard

once booted you can access via screen sharing, fairly sure the way that JonMS set this up you have to use the screen sharing app…..a VNC viewer wont do
    username: appletv
    password: appletv
Ok, now, im not scared of IP addresses but for the new and lazy, bonjour is useful and the current bonjour name is friggin ridiculous
Open System Preferences and click on sharing, change the name up the top to just read appletv and then close system preferences. - this is for terminal access mainly
so at this point repair permissions and then you are ready to go.

    Repairing permissions with terminal
    type sudo diskutil repairPermissions /

Now all i need is working audio, everything i have tried so far has failed.........i would love to install 10.5.6 but my system wont boot the disc :/

EDIT: boot iDeneb image in VMware and installed to external disc still need to get the install to work (havnt change kernel added kexts and such)
