Leopard runs pretty well so far. So why should Snow Leopard work any worse.
My hope is that apple's optimizations squeeze even a little more out of the ATV hardware ;-).
And btw, I don't intend to use the ATV as a real machine. I just do this as some kind of hobby.
Well, sometimes I AM really bored ;-)
And unfortunately, I don't have enough spare time - otherwise maybe this would already work.
Is it worth the trouble to make Leopard run on the ATV? Imho, not really. But (sometimes) it's fun.
Ok, I have read through this thing for an hour. Can someone please give me idiot proof instructions on the low audio fix. I can't find the voodoo kernal or the applehda.kext that needs to be modified. Can someone please link these to me or give me step by step instructions. Thank you for this image and all the work. This one thing would make my media center complete!
Thanks Again!
The only way to get sound working properly (atm) is to setup a 10.5.6 installation by yourself.
Jon's and mine are 10.5.8 - and there is no sound fix for that.
Maybe, if I got some time over the christmas holidays I'll setup a 10.5.6 and upload it for you - but no promises ;-)
So let me get this straight, If i download the image provided via torrent and clone it to my appletv, I should get a working copy of leopard that I can run frontrow on???
Is the low sound problem present in the downloaded image?
Also, will I be able to shutdown/sleep the device and how does it wake from sleep
I know its almost the same as having just a straight appletv interface, but thats what I want.
Also, should I be able to use a usb keyboard and mouse as well as a external harddrive?

The two images are fully working Mac OS X installations, except for the fact that sound volume is low and that it's very SLOW. You can use all kinds of (usb) devices though.
I would love an image that is faster with better audio too!
To repeat the question above, will it go to sleep and wake up? This is the main reason I'm doing this. If the apple tv had an actual wake up and sleep mode things would be great! With Jon's image it goes to sleep but doesn't seem to want to wake up.
Why? Because I want to use this thing in my car... On the other hand, is there a way to put in a sleep / wake up or hibernate kext on an apple tv?
