Thanks Ash, I think I figured it out. The ide cable may have a fault in it. If I power down and press it, its fine next power up. So I will order a new one.

As a side note, is there any benefit to using tiger instead? In terms of performance an memory utilization? My plan is to use my atv as a portable media server I can bring with my to friends places and play movies. I want to use plex as i use that one my current projector setup. I want smooth playback (I need to fully test your 10.5.8 install for that still). I also need to dig around and see what more I can slim up to free up as much mem as possible.

I've seen more information on 10.5 than 10.4 I find that odd hehe.

Hello to all.

After looking/working ash's atv image and JM's atv image I've made my "vanilla" 10.5.8 installation wit all updates so far.

None of ash/JM's images have "AppleHDA.kext" on the Extensions folder. I've tried all possible ways to add it, but, "boot bomb" the install every time! So I've ended erasing it also. I've only "VoodooHda.kext" and the "prefs panel" installed.

The problem is... very, very low sound!

I've mine booting from a sata usb external hard drive. Runs fast. Everything is working well. The problem are, music and movies! I can't enjoy it because of the super low sound!

As anyone changed/updated the voodooHDA to have better sound level?
Is it possible to have AppleHDA/voodooHDA coexisting in the 9.5.0 kernel?

if i boot the leo os from here, there's no ethernet.(on my intel imac)
Is there any possibility to get that working?

There is no display driver for Tiger - so no 1360x768 or whatsoever resolution.
For Leopard this works so far, though.

I didn't try Ethernet on my Macbook Pro, but Wifi definitely works with my image. To enable Ethernet you could try to copy over the necessary kext from your another Leopard 10.5.8 machine. This should work.

Thank you, iÄve tried to find it but with no luck. Which one is the kext for ethernet there's an IOUSBETHERNET and an IONETWORKING...

Both are on theidebneb image

I think the right kext is IONetworkingFamiliy.kext - there some other network card specific kexts in it.

Or simply run "sudo kextstat" to see what kexts are loaded on your regular iMac setup. Then compare to your ATV Leo install and you should be able to easily find the missing kext.

Unfortunately it doesn't work. If i copy the kext from my imac(with 10.5.8) atv says: "could not load..."
The atv version got 1.5 mb and the kext from my imac got 4.4mb.

Any other ideas ?

You can follow my guide and install an iDeneb distro. But then you'd have to install all the necessary kexts/patches manually - not that easy ;-)
