Default External DVD (USB) not recognised

Running 3.0.1 firmware and patched with ATV-XBMC-Launcher 3.2.1 and NitoTV 0.8.3, I have no problem with regular USB storage (e.g. hard drives) but not with my USB DVD drive.

With the DVD plugged in, a diskutil list shows no additional drives.

The drive is getting power, and with a DVD disk it spins up and down again continuously.

How do I go about troubleshooting the issue?

    cheers
    Paul

DVD and CD-rom mounting (or DVD ISO mounting for that matter), just like AFP, require some additional files that are only on the 1.0 recovery.dmg and not on any combo update anywhere to work, just like the combo update a 1.0 recovery dmg in ~/Documents when running the smart installer would solve your problem.

Nito, thanks for replying. And terrific work - thanks to you I can mount my NAS. How can I check whether or not my recovery.dmg is 1.0 or not? My atv is second hand....

    system_profiler says Machine Model: AppleTV1,1.

    cheers

My USB powered DVD drive just refused to work with the aTV
My powered DVD drive only shows up when a DVD is inserted in it
