Custom ATV for 1080p support

I'm one of those disappointed that the new ATV does not sync nor support 1080p.

Is it feasible to put ATV OS on a different hardware platform to get 1080p and maintain the iTunes sync/streaming?

He's talking about the new iOS based ATV.

But yes the ATV4Mac is about the only solution (if you can snap up one of the older ATVs before they run out of stock). the disadvantage is that the new features (netflix) won't be available to the classic ATV.

Additionally, we all know that in general the existing Apple TV could only output at 1080, it only had enough grunt to decode at 720p and then upscale to 1080p

With the addition of a crystalHD card and booting linux, the existing AppleTV can decode 1080p and output full 1080p. This is still not possible with the ATV OS.
