Default Best settings to improve streamed video quality when using Mplayer in NitoTV

I am streaming video (via zapstream) from my Dreambox satellite receiver to my AppleTV over my LAN. Unfortunately, the video suffers from pixelation, blurring, and interlacing noise.

I was wondering if anyone has experimented with the argument settings in Mplayer and can recommend the best configuration. I have tried all of the de-interlacing options, and they all seem to introduce their own level of noise (either edge enhancement noise or too much blurring).

I am using the latest AppleTV version and NitoTV 0.79.

I have not tried Quicktime (not sure how to bring it up actually), but I think I read that it will not be any better.

Note that the satellite feeds are currently all SD, but I hope to upgrade my receiver to get HD broadcasts as well. Can NitoTV handle it?

    Thanks.

I'm curious. Why would you want to stream your Dreambox to an aTV?

Why not watch directly from the Dbox?

I only have a satellite connection in one room of my apartment and I am unable to add one in my main TV room. So, I have been trying to find a solution to stream the signal to my main TV room -- either to the AppleTV or to my PS3. Unfortunately, it does not seem that the PS3 can be used in this capacity (at least not without a Linux installation), so I focused on the Apple TV.

I have switched to using QuickTime in nitoTV instead of MPlayer and the results seem to be better for me. You may want to try that out to see if you like it better.

However, although I can switch channels using my iphone or my laptop, doing so kills nitoTV and I need to launch the app and reconnect to the stream. I wonder if anyone else has a better way of switching channels or viewing the stream without it being interrupted.

I think the way you are trying is most safe. Have you already tried this? If so did this work out. I am curious to know. Thanks in advance.

I had tried what I described but never managed to be able to switch channels without having to restart nitoTV. However, I have since switched to using the PS3's Internet Browser to view my streamed signal and that works better, allows adjusting picture processing/filtering levels and adjusting aspect ratios on the fly. It also works well when switching channels.
