Just checking is there is a way to play AVI movies on Apple TV 160Gb. Currently I convert them to mp4 format via QuickTime.

Perian + (nitotv or atvfiles) is the most common solution. However you can also use xbmc

You really should install Perian as well: Install Perian - AwkwardTV One thing to note, that page talks about Perian 1.1.4, but Perian 1.2.2 does work on the AppleTV (even though it doesn't officially support the ATV, it has run there since version 0.5): Perian - The swiss-army knife of QuickTime® components

I forgot to mention Sapphire (no deliberate bias there gbooker)

I have installed XBMC (plays everything) with a patchstick and opened up the hard drive with SAMBA. This allows .avi movies to be stored on the ATV. Mythbox works well with my MythTV server: I am now spoiled with commercial skipping.
