ATV 720p Stream via TC NOT jerk-free
Hi,
i just bought a new ATV and want to stream HD videos from my TC. I've flashed my ATV to install Boxee and XBMC. After this i tried to stream videos i stored on my TC, wich are 720p *.mkv-files. It's working, but i still get a lot of jerking. So what can i do to run my videos fluently? Should i convert it into an other container-format like MPEG e.g.?

Do they play fine locally on the apple TV?
Generally the Apple TV does not have the CPU power to decode 720p MKV files.
The only solution is crystalhd-for-osx - Project Hosting on Google Code which is starting to shape up well.

No, it doesn't play fine locally as well. It's a bit more fluently but not as fluently as it should be to enjoy it. I'll try it with an other container and if this doesn't work too, crystalhd is my last option.

CrystalHD is quite cheap (I paid $20 for mine on eBay), it was not tricky to install either.
If the file won't play smoothly locally, another container might help (I suggest MPEG4 container) - but it can also be the file is encoded with too high a profile/complexity for the appletv to be able to play without hardware assistance (ie CrystalHD)
