Just being lazy I used Duperduper (free trial version) and have now managed to 'burn' my usb harddisk
Did not want to DD on this rig as it is my production macbook, don't want to have it DDing an img for a couple of hours (at least this is what it took me to upgrade my ATV harddisk)
Anyway, the image boots up fine on my macbook now but when I connect the HD to my ATV the ATV takes some extra time booting up and some additional screen flickering, but in the end it boots up the internal drive
Any tips to check on before I try to disable/unplug the internal drive (drastic measures I know)
By the way, don't know if it was mentioned somewhere, the password for the ATV OSX image is appletv
I'm glad interest was sparked a little in this device
Cool, seems interesting
Will give it a try

If you plug the drive directly into the atv, it does not require this.
On a side note, i'm not sure why it's taking so long. I find that disk utility can push a 5gb dmg onto my USB drive in about 30-40 minutes. I've got an old G5 too!
Additionally, I don't think it matters what the target drive's called or what the partition is called as the DMG changes it. mine is called ATVOSX and works fine.
One thing I would do thou is boot up with Jon's image, install all the apple updates and then make a new DMG with disk utility. This way, you have a backup with the current updates if anything goes sour.
Needed to add some prep steps to my HD following instructions found in:
What I needed to add/do was:
Change Partition Type
NOTE: Once you do this, you can't mount the disk on your Intel Mac anymore without reversing the change. If you mess up here, you'll need to start over.
1. Open Disk Utility
2. Select the external disk from the left pane. Right click and select "Information"
3. Take note of the "Disk Indentifier". In my case, it is "disk3". For safety reasons, the rest of this guide is written with "diskX". Replace the X with the number of your drive.
4. From Terminal:
gpt -r show /dev/diskX
5. You'll get something similar to this back:
ETC ETC until and including step 11
I've installed your image to the internal hdd, it works correctly, a bit slow btw...
I've a problem with my sony tv here.
Any screen resolution I select, the top menu bar, and the bottom of the dock (where it shows the running programs) is missing.
Any way to adjust screen size (not the resolution)?
That's a common problem on many tvs. Look into the display settings, perhaps there you'll find a "overscan" setting.
This cannot be solved if you use component cables to connect to your TV - component output just allows TV resolutions, eg 720p.
Can anyone please send me some rapidshare links ?
I got Leopard 10.5.8 running but the rgb but the screen blinks alot. Like it is searching system hung and now it will not boot.. Am I missing something?? I am wondering is there anything need for reboot the atv with leopard?
