    Default [AppleTV] Bricked by ATVPatch?

So, I have been running with a hacked ATV for months, and been greatly satisfied, only bugger was that I had to remount SMB shares manually everytime a connection was lost. So I thought, why not try ATVPatch as it was suddenly posted freely on their website. I used v2.4. It didn't install anything, and after a retry (which failed and suggested that I had to do a factory default again before reflashing), it boots with an atv4windows logo saying that something has gone wrong, try repatching. It boots into my ATV though but I'm not able to do a factory default, neither from the Settings menu or the diagnostics menu (6 sec menu and -) - in fact, the latter won't boot). None of the hacks appears to be installed, neither do I have SSH or telnet access. Have anyone experienced this?

What to do now? I suspect that the recovery image (v 1.0) is still intact (and in case it's not, I have a backup in a dmg file, recovery.dmg as used frequently out there). I would think that the ATVPatch is someway has simply altered the partition table or bootloader.

My theory is, that it somehow should be possible to create an old-school patchstick and thus enable ssh. From there the bootloader or recovery partition could be restored in someway. Does anyone have an oppinion on this approach, or alternative suggestions?

    Some info about the system:

40 GB ATV, originally with the 1.0 firmware.
Currently running 2.0.2. Was entirely defaulted before ATV Patch update
It connects to iTunes without problems
I'm running OS X 10.5 on an MBP in case any files might be needed.

I'd greatly appreciate if anyone would spare a couple of minutes, thanks a lot guys

    Default atvpatch

Exactly same thing....but with the new 160gb with 2.0.2 (2.0 ootb) After 2.4 patch message to repatch...no factory restore...boots back to atv4windows then reboots to appletv. one thing i did wrong, on first install of patch did not connect to ethernet via wire, i left it on wireless.
    I saw that 2.5 is out...maybe!!!!!

Actually I used wireless as well the first time, and wondered why I couldn't access the internal webserver while ATVPatch installed.

    Default atvpatch

Same thing here...obviously that torrent was a fake. Mine showed a BrickTV easter egg splash screen before saying Thank you for downloading the torrent.

So anyone know how to factory reset the ATV at this point. the normal hold menu and minus doen't seem to work anymore?

    Thanks

    Cheers

PS... did you guys notice your flash stick is also now F-ed up... I was using a 1GB drive which is now stuck on a 126MG partition that I can't remove. WTF?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

al613, I don't think its an easter egg. First, my drive is a kingston 4gb and after reformatting it was ok....second, everything works ok....as an atv...except for the factory reset....I think it was a combination of not putting it to wired ethernet at the time of patching plus the site is partially down, atvpatch.com, with no chance of the software connecting to it...I had hoped for 2.5 but will have to wait a week or two for 3.0

    Default ATVPatch

    Thanks Richardbr...

I was finally able to get rip of that partition on my usb drive and reformatted everything...One problem solved

Now.. I agree with you that with the atvpatch.com site being down maybe the reason why the patching did not work...but why would the factory reset be affected?

I will try installing 2.2 later tonight and see if that works (I upgraded from 2.2)...just wondering if the boot sequence will still recognize the usb since I cant factory restore from the settings menu or from the dev way( menu+minus)

Lets get this fixed guys...and thanks for the help and info.

Isn't hacking fun...keeps you busy when you're at the office and should be working. LOL

    Hi,

The "problem" with the partition is based on the different types of Partitions on the Patchsticks.

BTW: I am not affiliated with ATVPatch - my username and email address were registered before Cisco decided to change the name of his website.

Default Got the same EASTER Egg with a BRICKTV LOGO

I got the same issue as the other person

I have the start up LOGO as a BRICK TV and tells me thanks for downloading the torrent

Also my restore partition is gone and I can not do factory restore. It just recycles back to the original 1.0 and will not allow any updates.

WHAT are we all going to do to fix this??

    Any suggestions from anyone

I am trying to do the LINUX approach at this time and have had no luck trying to rebuild it.

    Thanks

    Where did you download it?
Knowing Cisco, I would not be surprised if he had uploaded this crap himself.

Did you manage to get the Linux Patchstick done?

    Default atvpatch bricktv

I downloaded my 2.4 version from pizzatorrent but torrent says demonoid...they also have atvflash 3.0...maybe someone should try that...see if it will fix the probs.

Maybe it was a ploy to get us to buy 2.5 LOL

Someone should figure it out soon.
