AppleTV + 2TB External Hard Drive. Help?
Hi. I'm sure the question has been answered a billion times but I just can't get mine to work right. I just bought (2 days ago) a brand new Apple TV to try and pair with my WD 2TB External Hard Drive which I had filled with all sorts of yummy videos, concerts, whatever.
My problem is as follows... I did the ATVUSB Creator procedure and successfully SSH'd into my appletv which i later installed nitoTV on and the hit it with the smart installer. I'm trying to access the videos and movies located on my hard drive which I now have connected directly into the AppleTV but still can't get to them.
I have nitoTV on my menu and see the WD SmartWare section under the Files menu. I access it and can't find the folders where the videos are.
Did I do something wrong? Do I have to do anything more or less in order to be able to play back from my USB hard drive?
Help would be greatly appreciated, and sorry in advance if I missed something totally newbie...

For some reason when I connect the hard drive to my computer I get 2 different volumes. I get "WD SmartWare" and "My Book". When I access the "My Book" volume I can see all my files, but for some reason, the nitoTV only goes for the WD SmartWare volume and not the My Book volume.

WD SmartWare is a virtual CD, another "smart idea" intended to make setup of your external drive easier for idiots.
As is typical with such things, the smart idea is really a stupid idea for at least some users.
There are two solutions for you.
- Stop this partition mounting
Code:
sudo sh -c "echo UUID=`diskutil info /Volumes/WD\ SmartWare/ | grep 'UUID' | awk '{print $NF}'` none hfs rw,noauto 0 0 >> /etc/fstab" - Remove the stupid software completely WD Product Update

I removed it using the Updater thing from their site, which worked fine but the USB never showed up under Files so I started reading and found out it might work better if I downgraded to version 2.4, which I did. After it downloaded the whole .dmg and did the installation and everything, I'm stuck at the black loading screen with the white apple and it just won't run. I've tried restarting (menu + "-") and i've tried disconnecting it and reconnecting it but i'm stuck.
Is there any way to hard reset or take it back to factory settings? I've tried the normal reset but it just goes back to the black screen with the apple logo, it won't go into the "select language" screen.
HELP!?
Much appreciated, btw.

Now you have a completely different problem. I don't know why you thought that 2.4 would fix this.
How did you downgrade? Did you use osupdate?

I read some random post saying how a downgrade had fixed a problem similar to mine, it had instructions on how to downgrade directly through ssh.
Now my AppleTV won't load up. It starts but ends up stuck on the apple logo. I can ssh into it, but i can't get it to load correctly.
Is there any way to restore factory settings through ssh?
Thanks a lot for all the help, btw.
