Default Apple TV Internet Streaming Plugin

Ok, so an idea... I think it would be useful/cool to have an Apple TV plugin that allows streaming of an avi from the internet. Let me clarify. Say i upload a a bunch of home videos to rapidshare.com and they are not rar, compressed etc, but .avi single link files. It would be uber cool if the Apple TV could access the URL (or a website i make with a list of my files, or my rapidshare user account page) and start playing them, ie streaming them. I know some people might think, wait AVIs need to be completely downloaded before they'll play but that not the case. If you download the file and (on a mac) open the .download file by showing the package contents and play the file inside in something like VLC or MPlayer it will play. Regardless of the file size, as it is downloaded, as long as the dl speed is sufficient it will continue to play. Just a thought but this would be a really cool feature with many uses beyond what mine are. Thanks for the input.

Not if you have several hundred files and multiple Apple tvs... Also limits the sharing factor...

I agree. I work for a IP-tv provider and we have 15 channels available on H.264 unicast now that plays in VLC - vould be great to have those in th Atv.

    heres an interesting solution:

    http://blog.boxee.tv/2008/10/12/boxe...g-at-its-best/

you will need a dropbox account - www.getdropbox.com
theyre free but 2gb limit, otherwise theres a paid option i believe. if you need an invite pm me with your email, i have a few.

and you will need xbmc/boxee installed.

hope this is what you had in mind.

edit: looks like this was set up with a mac mini, but it might be possible to install dropbox on the appletv much like installing firefox, eyetv etc. theres only one way to find out i spose.
