Default Apple TV does not update

    Hello,

i tried to update my apple tv from 2.2 to 2.3 (which i got from ebay) but the update does not work. It downloads the update, puts the files in ../frontrow/Updates, the files are disappearing and i am still back to 2.2 (for a short time 2 or 3 seconds i see the apple logo and then i am back in the update menu). Same when doing an downgrade to 2.1 with the osupdate method from arkwardtv:
    2009-01-20 01:02:56.101 osupdate[226] Running on Apple TV 1.1+
    2009-01-20 01:02:56.650 osupdate[226] Requesting update
    2009-01-20 01:02:56.937 osupdate[226] Update requested: 0

and after the reboot i am still on 2.2.

Factory restore is not working out of the menu; when rebooting with "Menu" and "-" pressed - the apple tv does not show up the factory restore menu.
All the other things are working fine. Is there a way to check if all the partitions are correct and what type of harddisk is build in without opening the box ?.
By the way - does anybody know how apple gets the image back on an bricked tv ?.

    Smile Solved

    davilla,

thanks, the post is excellent. After inspecting the partitioning i ound out that everything was installed on the media partition; even the system itself.
    Using the superp script from
ATV Bootloader Patchstick, Backup, and Restore Creation Script - Bubba.org
i was able to restore my harddrive.
On my first try i was not able to select the language after rebooting - the same thing that was described in ther arkwardTV post. After trying with 2.0.2 image the factory restore was possible and i was able to update to the newest firmware.
