Apple TV in color with HDMI IN
Hi there
I recently bought an AppleTV (And I love it)
I have one problem though - I dont have a flatscreen and I am not considering buying one in the near future. The tv dont have HDMI or Component so right now I am living without colors (It sucks)
I know that I can buy a converter like this or like this. But to be honest I would prefer not to spend 90 pound.
I have thought of another solution and I hope that someone can tell if it will work or not.
The thing is that I am about to buy a home theater system and I have read that it is sometimes possible to run the ATV through a home theater system if the system has HDMI IN (I guess HDMI OUT wont work). Is this true?

The HDMI in on a home theater system is just going to tap the audio signals and route everything else to the corresponding HDMI out port. It's not going to act as a convertor.
I do believe that there is a method to get full color from the one component jack, but I don't know the details as I don't have an aTV and i've never bothered to investigate further. I don't know if it works with the current hardware/software.
Just google "apple tv composite"

Not even if you put the signal through the dvd-player?

You are right. It is possible. But you still have to buy a HDMI-DVI adapter and a DVI-VGA adapter which makes it almost as expensive as the converter in the links. And as far as I remember you would have to perform the hack everytime you turn on the ATV.
But thankyou for answering.
