    Default 24/96

I have had a first gen ATV since shortly after they came out and overall am very happy with it. The one thing that continues to frustrate me is the inability to play 24/06 audio files (for audiophiles... ) over the damn thing. Has anyone figured out how to hack the machine to bypass the downsampling and output the higher res data stream?

Are you running a stock ATV or one with OSX installed? I was interested in installing OSX on my ATV to overcome the audio output limitations, but I'd like someone to confirm it works first. In theory it should work.

Take a look at this article on how to force a higher output using Itunes:

    Thumbs up

If anyone is interested, I can nearly confirm that the Apple TV 1 will play 96/24 files when running OSX.

I booted from the Lite 10.5.5 version on a USB drive. I was able to change the Audio Midi settings to 96 khz and 24 bit.

I did not have any files on the USB to test this out with so that's why I say this is "nearly" confirmed.

Ok, bought ATV, installed OSX 10.5.8, conclusions?? I think it fully supports 24/96.. I think my reciever is the one that doesn't support that.. It show UNLOCK on screen.. But it will decode correctly 16/96.. But then I get no sound from the SW.. Gonna research a little more..

Edit: And it can play DTS wavs perfectly using frontrow!!
