    Default locked iPhone 4s advice

I apologize if this has been asked before, I tried a quick search and didn't find anything.
I recently bought an AT&T locked iPhone 4s on craigslist only to realize AT&T isn't very friendly to anyone trying to get a prepaid plan on an iPhone, especially if you just moved into the US and don't have credit, so I've been looking into what to do with my newly acquired phone.

I've been looking around the web to see if there are any easy unlocking solutions, since I've never done anything similar to this before and I don't really want to risk bricking my iPhone.
I've found a lot of mixed up information, along with stuff like this: Unlock and Jailbreak all Apple iPhones! which sounds a bit too good to be true.

So I guess what I'm asking is: is there any way to unlock my AT&T iPhone 4s that's newb friendly? Has anyone tried the tool I linked above or anything similar to it?
I really need to get a plan working on this phone and the only one that seems viable for someone in my position is the t-mobile prepaid plan, but I can't get that on this phone atm.

    thanks in advance!

Nope. Absolutely no known way to legitimately unlock your 4S aside from having the carrier do it (which AT&T will not do). Anyone offering paid unlocks are either scammers or are using a backdoor method which isn't guaranteed to keep you unlocked.

Alright! Thanks for solving that question.
Would getting a prepaid AT&T card and then using something like the APN changer here: Unlockit - APN Changer for your iPhone work for enabling data on the iphone 4s? Even if it's just edge that would be a pretty good alternative for someone in my position I think

It should, I know it works on the 4 -- I'm not 100% that it would work on the 4S but it should be worth a shot.

Alright, thank you for bearing with me thus far
This is where I'm at atm: I have a 4s and I already bought a prepaid AT&T plan. Everything works perfectly except for the data. I get 3g signal but whnever I try to open a website through this I get an error message saying I do not have a data plan.
I followed the instructions listed here: Unlockit - APN Changer for your iPhone and installed the AT&T profile.

Once again I tried accessing the data network (opening google) but I got exactly the same error. Rebooted my iPhone just to be safe and nothing.

Am I doing something wrong? I haven't jailbroken this iPhone yet becuase the instructions I found didn't require it to be JB

    Thanks in advance!

Hate to say I don't know. Usually that indicates either incorrect network profile settings or that your profile settings rely on a .IPCC file, which on iOS 5+ requires a patched commcenter.

For the most simple iPhone 4S unlock solution, it should be GPP Sim as checked all the iPhone 4S sim video in Youtube with these advantages,
one-stop unlock with no jailbreak needed/No dial 112/unlocked AT&T could be uses on 3rd party carrier such as T-Mobile/KDD1/Softbank/ 2G/3G dynamic switching...

    verified video in Youtube here:
GPP SIM unlock iPhone 4S All version! No Jailbreak! No Dial 112!.flv - YouTube
