Default Viewing movies on a TV using iPhone

I'm having an issue with being able to view movies that are on my iPhone on my TV and I'm hoping someone here can help me out.

I have an adapter cable (iPhone plug on one end, RCA jacks video, audio L and R on the other) and when I first plug the cable into both I can view the movie on my TV - until the "This accessory is not designed for iPhone" dialog box appears which stops the iPod app from playing the movie until the option to enable airplane mode is selected. Upon returning to the iPod app and restarting the movie I get the audio but no video.

I have an iPhone 3G jailbroken running 3.1 OS. I used the cydia app TVOut which helped me get at least 5 seconds of video and audio fron the iPhone - prior to using that app I wasn't able to get any part of the movie.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
