Nevertheless I haven't updated to 3.0.1 yet. It seems like there's another SMS hack out there according to
MuscleNerd which didn't get fixed with 3.0.1.
This time the carriers have to fix it anyways.

So it seems like you're running the 3.0 kernel on 3.0.1 as soon as you're jailbreaking with redsn0w. Do you in turn lose the SMS fix?
