Since the iPhone 3G you have is being registered on AT&T's network, AT&T identifies it as an iPhone and automatically signs you up for their data plans.

I'm fairly sure this is NOT happening; when I gave my wife the 2G iPhone in July of '08 (already unlocked/jailbroken) when I got my 3G, the APN Changer worked just fine then, and my plan didn't change at all on my monthly bills.
Same is true now. I just checked, my Family Talk Plan hasn't changed at all; it does show that my wife has the 3G (just like it showed she had the 2G without a data plan), and that it's still just a regualr "Add a line for $9.99 per month" phone line. The data used is showing that it's "Internet/MEdia Net Pay Per Use" and not an iPhone data plan line.
Good idea, made me check twice, thanks...but am not sure that's the issue.
Anyone/anything else someone can think of?
