Your post gave me an idea to save wifi life since its so flakey and crapy on the my phone.
I will download all the files from apt copy them via usb and then run a script using the command you gave me to install them.

I was wrong it has nothing to do with carier settings or the firmware it seems more like a hardware issue.

I dont think the chips are failing or the com board needs replacing you just need to open it up. Clean it all ensure conections are good and put it back together.
Worked for me.
Keep a close eye on temps. i.e. dont run wifi runing for hours.
