My friend has similiar issue. The solution is very simple,
he turns off the 3G ( setting, general, network, turn off 3G).
Th 3G iPhone has a little "glid" on the certain spot, it confuse between regular (2g) or a 3G network. Anyway you don't need the 3G 24 hrs 7 days a week right?
