I have a 4gb iPhone in pieces right now. Before I took it apart everything worked fine, but the wifi was grayed out and it couldn't connect to a network. I take this as meaning the comm board was locked. I just took it apart yesterday to try a hardware unlock until I decided I'd just buy the new one.
