I'm not sure if this helps, but I noticed the following post on Amazon.com:

"...Cut the cable just below the 30-pin dock connector. Inside the 30-pin connector is where the authentication chip is. This connector is now like a "key" to begin your video. I wonder if you could just go to Radio-Shack, ask for a 1-time demo, then have your iPhone/6G iPod be "activated" for TV output -- using a cheaper, non-apple cable.
