The Inventor is on a distinguished road

I know this topic is covered in detail in multiple places but not in exactly the same way as my problem presents itself (or at least how I perceive the problem.)

I was just given a neighbors iPhone to assist them in unlocking. This iPhone was originally loaded with v1.0.2 firmware. The neighbor then updated it to v1.1.1 and then to v1.1.2 using iTunes.

This iPhone has never been locked or jailbroken and has always been on AT&T. The neighbor nows wants to unlock the iPhone and move to another carrier.

To make that happen do I;

Just restore the firmware back to v1.0.2 and then directly upgrade it to v1.1.1 to then unlock and activate it using the 'automated' (TIFF exploit) method.

Or do I need to do something special first like downgrade the Baseband and then downgrade the firmware to unlock and activate.

As always any and all help is greatly appreciated.
